Should You Have An Unplugged Ceremony?

There’s one thing that I always recommend to couples when planning their wedding, and that is having an unplugged ceremony! I’ve been to many weddings (both shooting and attending) , and can tell you from experience that this really does have a big impact on your day!

Take a peek at this photo and tell me it wouldn’t impact your ceremony! Yes, I was stressed haha :)

Here’s a couple reasons why you want to have an unplugged ceremony;

  1. You as a couple, will be able to see the smiling faces of all your guests. Okay… well maybe they are laughing, crying, cheering, etc… but this is something you won’t regret. When you look back into the crowd of friends and family, their eyes won’t be tucked behind cell phones, iPads or cameras.

  2. Guests will have a much more enjoyable time when they are engaged in the ceremony. Restricting the use of phones, cameras, iPads, etc will allow this to happen more naturally and you will also have a better experience. These devices also make noise which can distract you, and other guests too. With devices being a big part of our lives, sometimes it’s nice to “unplug” and focus on the wedding events and celebration.

  3. You paid a professional to capture those moments for you, and so your guests don’t have to. Sometimes guests inadvertently step out into the aisle, or block the view of your photographer/videographer , so you want to make sure you give them the best opportunity to capture memories that will last a lifetime. Imagine you get to the moment when rings are being put on each other’s hand and Uncle Bob stepped right in front of your photographer! OH NO! It makes taking photos or that special video much harder to do.

Let me know what you think about unplugged ceremonies! Share it with someone you know who is planning a wedding - Cheers!
