Tiffany and Gonzalo - Engagement Photos

Tiffany and Gonzalo are the sweetest couple - seriously! Two minutes after I met them I knew this was going to be a fun and amazing shoot! We picked Trillium park for the location, as it offers a variety of scenes and landscapes, including shots of downtown Toronto

Here are some of my favourites from the shoot - shot along with my good friend and very talented photographer Mario Etienne.

Portraits with Phelisha

Phelisha is an up and coming blogger, social media influencer and fun person to be around! We met up in Chinatown for a shoot on a surprisingly warm December day. I mean it was still cold ( I was in a coat, hoodie, winter hat, etc) but we made it work.

City Night and City Lights

Something that always captures my eye and attention is the city lights of Toronto. I've always been drawn to bigger cities despite being raised in small town. Yes, I'm from Newfoundland and I'm proud of it.

I wanted to incorporate some lights and neon signs for these portraits sessions! These were all taken in the Chinatown area of Toronto.

Since I was a 1 man crew, I didn't want to have obtrusive light stands or anything when people were walking around on the streets. I used an 85mm 1.8 lens (to let in a lot of light) and an LED light that I held up with 1 hand. The LED also had a tungsten diffuser on it, which balanced with the colour temp of the city lights, then switched my white balance to tungsten, to come out with an appropriate skin tone.

Unity Festival 2017

The 2017 Unity Festival was held from July 13-15 in Toronto, ON. The festival celebrated art, spoken word poetry, breakdancing, beatboxing and music from local youth and international artists.

I covered the Unity Concert portion of the festival, held on Saturday July 15th at David Pecaut Square in downtown Toronto!

The rap group Main Source headlined the event, as part of their 25th anniversary tour of "Breaking Atoms."

Other artists included; Tobi, The Sorority, Red Slam, Jayd Ink, Lola Bunz, Ebhoni, and many more!

Here are some of my favourite photos from the event, shot for Quip Magazine!

Vacation in Kelowna

I spent last week in Kelowna BC, celebrating the wedding of my great friends, Neil and Pam! They met during our first year of university at orientation! We played a gig that night(I was part of a band of rock stars called U-Turn) and I wore a grass skirt and Nike high tops, which Pam reminded me of during the speeches :)

It was an amazing week, and Kelowna reminds me a lot of my hometown, Corner Brook NL. The view from a rental home we visited looked like the Bay of Islands.

Here are some photos from touring around Kelowna. It's a beautiful place, if you ever have a chance to go there, I highly recommend it!

I have some exciting things coming up, stay tuned for more!

Cheers,
Matt

Vacation - North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

This is something I've never done before, I'm a pretty private person, but I haven't been showing you who I am, what I do and what I'm all about. I've decided to be more open with you and show you more of me :)

I took a week off in April and went to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a much needed vacation! We stayed on Barefoot Resort in a condo and soaked up a lot of sun!

We did a lot of exploring, went to Charleston, which was founded in 1670 by English colonists. It has cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses. The city has some pretty cool "row housing" which reminded me of St. John's, Newfoundland. We also went to Magnolia Plantation and ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp :) during our trip to Charleston.

I was excited to get out and play some golf, as I haven't really swung a club since October! It was sooo relaxing to be able to sit by the pool, with a cold drink in hand and catch some rays.

One the way back from SC, we stopped over in Atlanta where we were treated to some great piano music at a pub in the airport......... and some great pizza of course! I mean who doesn't love pizza and live music?

I had an amazing vacation, thanks for reading this blog post. Do you have any vacation plans for this year? Let me know, right in the comments below!

Corporate Portraits with Jennifer

The world is full of opportunities, and putting out the best images of yourself when applying for jobs or creating a solid LinkedIn profile is crucial. You want recruiters to look at your profile and know that you put in the effort to present yourself in a professional manner, while creating that ever so important first impression.

Let's be real, does your selfie that you took under horrible tungsten lighting conditions present a good image? Does that dark, underexposed snapshot you took on vacation grab the attention of a recruiter?

I met up with Jennifer for some corporate styles portraits and headshots in the financial district.

If you'd like to get some great images for your LinkedIn profile or headshots to apply for acting or modelling jobs, get in touch! Drop me a line info@mattstratton.ca or you can find me on Instagram and Facebook!

Matt
